A Silly Valentine’s Story
I didn’t grow up being homeschooled, and one Valentine’s Day really sticks out in my mind with a funny memory! I was in grade three and we were passing around Valentine’s Day cards in our class when a little boy handed me one that showed a picture of two Peanuts characters smooching. It was completely innocent and in reality, his mother likely picked them out and signed my name to it – which meant he would have had no idea what he was giving me!
I just remember looking at it, seeing the animated characters sharing a kiss underneath a giant heart, and knowing it was from that boy I felt immediate embarrassment and an overall sense of “EWWWWW!!!“. I was very much still in the “boys are gross” stage, so the very thought of this boy possibly wanting to kiss me, (which I can guarantee you he did not – he was probably just as embarrassed as I was), made me want crawl into a hole and forget about Valentine’s Day entirely! Haha!
I still think about this whenever I go to pick out Valentine’s Day cards for my kids to hand out to their friends! I very intentionally don’t choose any that have pictures of the characters kissing! This may sound silly, and it IS really, but nevertheless this has become a core memory that I still chuckle about to this very day.
A Valentine’s Day Blessing
I hope this list of the best Valentine’s Day activities for homeschoolers has given you some great ideas! Crafting and having fun with your children is never a waste of time! It’s often in these times spent together that our kids feel so loved and cherished. When we allow their creativity to flow freely and they see that we are enjoying our time with them, it makes them feel valued and special. And that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about isn’t it? Showing the ones we love just how important they are to us.
I know we don’t need a designated day to do this – or as some would say “a Hallmark holiday”. But there’s nothing wrong with using the month of February as an excuse to ditch some of the more mundane homeschool tasks and just love on your kids as much as you can!
And while we are spreading love to each other, let’s not forget that God’s love is the greatest love of all! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Blessings!
