The fall season is a time of transition for most people. Therefore, fall is the perfect time for creating a new routine! The summer months are over, kids are starting school again and a whole new season begins. In this blog post I’m sharing how you can create a fall routine that will serve you and your family!

A Cozy Fall Morning Routine
The first thing that comes to mind when people think about the fall is the word COZY! Fall is the time of year when the cooler weather sets in and everyone wants to feel cozy and comfortable.
I’m all for being cozy and having a cozy home! So when I think about my daily schedule in the fall season, I make sure to include time to enjoy the things this time of year has to offer.
Mornings are a great time to add some extra coziness into your routine. The crisp air is perfect for enjoying that morning cup of coffee on the front porch, or going for a brisk walk to take in the beauty of the changing leaves. Whatever your morning preferences are, allow yourself some extra time to enjoy them before your busy day begins.

Try setting your alarm clock a bit earlier than usual this fall so you can have some much needed quiet time to yourself. Consider the cozy fall mornings as YOUR time, and do whatever it is that fills your cup. This has become a crucial part of my morning routine that I simply can’t live without!

Creating A Healthy Routine For Fall
When creating a new fall routine, think about ways that you can boost your immune system. It’s important to keep you and your family healthy through the colder months.
As the seasons change, so do the needs of your body. Shorter days bring less sunlight and vitamin D, and those chilly fall nights might mean fewer outdoor activities after work. Making adjustments to your wellness routine is not as hard as it sounds and can have many positive effects on your everyday life.
One way this can be done is by making small changes to your meal planning. Try including nutrient-rich foods like root vegetables or a body-warming breakfast like oatmeal. Eating seasonally is an easy way to transition into your new fall routine, while also meeting some wellness goals.

Another easy way to be healthier this fall is to be aware of how many hours of sleep you’re getting. This is especially true if you plan on creating that cozy fall morning routine I just discussed. Take advantage of the fewer daylight hours and establish a sleep routine that allows your body to get the amount of rest it needs, while still grabbing that early morning quiet time.
Pay attention to your circadian rhythm and don’t stay up too late. Our energy levels vary with the change of seasons, so remember to give your body the sleep it needs in order to be healthy.
Easing Into Your New Daily Schedule
I’m a homeschool mom of 2 kids, so for us, our fall routine includes bringing back some habits we let go of during the summer. Whether you homeschool or not, it’s important to give you and your family some time to ease back into things.
Chances are, your daily schedule during the fall looks very different than it does in the summer months! Whether you’re dropping your kids off at school and then heading to work, or (like me) re-establishing the daily life of homeschooling – you need a little bit of margin for this.
When you are creating a fall routine that works for the needs of your family, think of that routine as a new habit. It takes some time and repetition to establish new habits, and a new routine is no different. Give everyone about a week or so of adjustment time. This could include things like:
- gradually making bedtimes a little bit earlier
- waking everybody up at a certain time in the morning
- adding some tasks to your to-do list in preparation for your new fall routine (ex. sorting school supplies, clothing, etc.)
Just remember that we are all creatures of habit, so expecting everyone to view a new routine as an exciting fresh start, may not be realistic! Give those around you some grace and time to adapt to the schedule changes. I have found that this is the best way to introduce a new routine while encouraging a positive attitude from everyone!
Include The Important Things
If you want to create a fall routine that’s cozy and productive, you need to make sure you include all of the important things. What are the important things you ask? Well….that depends on you and your family.
For me and MY family, the important things are:
- quiet morning time for myself before the kids wake up
- adequate time for our homeschool work
- family board game and movie nights
- time to get chores and housework done
- getting outside and enjoying the fall air
…..just to name a few!

Make sure to not only focus on things like school, work, and cleaning the house when making your new fall routine. Remember to include the favorite things your family loves to do! Work them into your routine so that everyone feels excited about the changes.
Maybe putting on some cozy sweaters and going for a bike ride in the fresh air is something you and your family love to do in the fall! If so, make a family bike ride part of your routine each week.
Or, perhaps you love to bake and the cool fall air means your kitchen won’t get too hot. Therefore, include some weekend baking in your fall routine!
By including not just the “musts”, but also the “wants” in your routine, you can accomplish what has to be done while also experiencing all the cozy fall vibes the season has to offer!
The Last Thing…
The last thing I will say is this:
When it comes to creating a fall routine, don’t let social media dictate what that should look like!
Fall is my favorite season, but if I tried to do all the things I’m told I SHOULD do by social media, I would likely start to hate it! Trying to do “all the things” will pretty much always lead to overwhelm and burnout.
It’s ok to be inspired by the people we see on social media and the internet is a great place to gather ideas. However, be ready to toss some ideas in the trash because not everything will work for you and your family.
Above all else, remember to create a fall routine that works for YOUR family, and your family only! Filter what you see and hear, and create something beautiful that reflects the needs and personalities within YOUR home.
The fall season is full of beauty, so take advantage of that and create a routine that allows your family to thrive and enjoy the season to its fullest!
Blessings!
